ARCC Mission Statement
The Anthropological Research and Cultural Collections support the
mission of the University of Kansas. That mission includes:
- Offering the highest quality education at all levels;
- Attaining high levels of research productivity and ensuring
that research informs educational experience;
- Providing service to Kansas, the nation and the world through
teaching, research, and the preservation and dissemination of knowledge;
- Preparing students for the challenges they will encounter in
an increasingly complex and diverse global community; and
- Striving for excellence, disciplined inquiry, and a multicultural
environment in which the dignity and rights of the individual are
respected.
The complementary mission of the Anthropological Research and Cultural
Collections is to serve as a steward of archaeological and ethnographic
cultural materials, increasing awareness of the diversity of human
culture by:
- Acquiring, documenting and preserving material culture, as a
trust for research and education;
- Encouraging the respectful use of cultural materials for teaching,
research and training in collection care;
- Supporting dynamic interpretations of the past and present,
grounded in an understanding and appreciation of material culture;
and
- Using these activities to disseminate knowledge about the diversity
of human culture.
